Aidi is an ancient breed of dog, another name for which is the Atlas Sheepdog. And it’s no coincidence. Aidi’s small homeland is the Atlas Mountains, which extend into Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
It is difficult to determine the exact age of this breed today. It is only known that back in the second millennium BC, similar dogs were used by nomadic tribes for protection and protection. Therefore, it is difficult to call an AIDI a purely shepherd dog; rather, its purpose is to serve its owner.
Today, the AIDI is considered a fairly rare breed. Those few nurseries that breed it pay great attention to the working qualities of animals.
The key character traits of representatives of this breed are independence, independence and seriousness. This dog is clearly not for beginners. Aidi are prone to dominance, so they need a strong owner who can become a leader for the animal. If the experience of raising a dog is not enough, you should contact a cynologist: Aidi requires early socialization and training.
By virtue of their character, as well as natural data, atlas shepherds are great watchmen. They are loyal to the family, attentive and sensitive, but do not trust strangers and treat them with suspicion.
Despite the need for training, Aidi is distinguished by a living mind and good memory, so it is not so difficult to engage in them with them. The main thing is to find an approach to a pet.
With other animals in the house, breed representatives get along well, especially if the puppy hit the family, where there were already pets. The younger relatives of Aidi, most likely, will educate. By the way, with cats, these dogs in most cases also live quite peacefully, but it all depends on the individual characteristics of the character of the dog.
Aidi love active games, sports, they are patient, they treat children well. True, experts still do not recommend getting a dog of this breed for children and even teenagers: a child will not be able to properly raise such a pet. In addition, a dog can be jealous of its owner.
The long coat of the Aidi needs careful grooming. Weekly brushing, bathing with a special shampoo are all essential if you want your dog to look beautiful and healthy. During the molting period, the pet should be combed two to three times a week.
It is also important to monitor the condition of the eyes, teeth and claws of the pet, to properly care for them.
Conditions of detention
Aidi is not an apartment dog. Despite its small size, the animal will feel much more comfortable on its own territory of a country house. By the way, it is not recommended to keep the dog on a chain or in an aviary. Still, AIDI is more suitable for free range. It is also important from time to time to go with your pet to the forest, to nature, so that the dog can run and frolic in the open area.
