Anubias description and content, photos and types of aquarium plant

Underwater plants – This is an important part of the creation of a normal microclimate of the aquarium. Most often, unpretentious plants with a decorative look choose for this. One of them is anubias. This is an evergreen plant with leaves of different shapes. It takes root well in various conditions and does not require much light. However, if you decide to place it in your aquarium, you should learn more about the features of creating suitable conditions and the rules for growing.

Description

Anubias – This is a small genus of tropical aquatic or marsh plants of the aroid family. However, culture can be grown in a humid greenhouse or a palyudarium. In nature, Anubias grows mainly in humid tropical forests, marshy areas, along the river bank. Particularly widespread in African tropics.

A representative of this kind are creeping evergreen herbs. They are characterized by a thickened rhizome and short internodes. In aquariums, Anubias is completely immersed in water, but in natural conditions only one species grows so – Nana, known as the name «Dwarf». The remaining varieties in water have only the root system. The leaves are already on land. And because in aquariums, culture grows much more slowly than in the natural environment.

Today there is a wide variety of types of anubias. Among them there are both very large and dwarf subspecies. Such mini-vegetables will converts favorably with any aquarium, while their leaves do not eat fish, due to which Anubias retains its aesthetic appearance for many decades.

Appearance

The plant has a predominantly green color. When creating the necessary conditions, you can reveal all the beauty of Anubias even in the aquarium. Its height reaches 15 cm. It is worth noting that there are several subspecies that grow much higher. For example, the height of the barter is 45 cm.

The highlight of the plant – These are his leaves. On one stem, leaves of various shapes can be located: triangular, oval, halfheartshaped, ellipse. Their surface is smooth. Petioles can have rare small spikes.

This culture is characterized by a symbolic type of branching. The main axis of the plant forms a shooting system with limited growth of the top, which develops from the buds of the shoots of the previous. There are approximately 2 inflorescences in one branch. The flowers of the female individual are tightly located, sometimes a little loosen. The male zone is completely reproductive. The flower itself is white. In its appearance resembles a cob. Its length is 4-6 cm.

Content in the aquarium

The plant itself has high adaptability. It does not require special care. It is enough to create the necessary conditions for its cultivation. Unlike many other aquarium plants, Anubias does not like much light. He is comfortable in weakly or medium-lit aquariums. Based on this, it is preferable to plant it below so that a shadow from other plants falls on it (Oblast Gold or Nymphaeus).

Optimal water hardness indicators range within DGH 6-20°. Preferred pH level – 7. Anubias steadfastly tolerates temperature drops. The plant develops best in water, the temperature of which is 24-27°C. However, if the mark drops to 18°C or will increase to 35°C, then the culture will not perish.

Another important condition for growing culture – Crystal pure water. There should not be a mut. If the suspended particles will settle on the leaflets of the plant, this will lead to a violation of their nutrition, as a result of which the plant may die. To prevent an unfavorable outcome, install powerful filters in the aquarium, as well as timely replace the water.

For this variety of underwater flora, soil is optional. Its root system can be located and eat just in water. That is, it is permissible to tie the plant to the snag or another decorative element. To do this, use a thread, wire or fishing line. Tie anubias carefully, but tightly, otherwise it can pop up a few days later. Когда культура пустит корни, которые надежно обмотают корягу, леску можно будет удалить.

Anubias can be grown in an aquarium with any kind of fish. This is one of the few crops that take root well in the cichliders. Despite the fact that the plant does not cause gastronomic interest in fish, in case of lack of plant foods in their diet, they can begin to eat leaflets. Because of this, the foliage grows irregular shape. Most often, representatives of Mbunes attack a young plant.

Propagation and breeding

There are several ways to propagate this culture:

  • cuttings;
  • separation of the rhizome;
  • Piking.

Reproduction at home is most often carried out by a vegetative way. That is, branches are separated from the main sprout (the segment should be small – 3 cm) and part of the root system (from 3–4 leaves and several roots). They are separately put in the tank. In order to strengthen the sprout, it is recommended to make fertilizers.

The generated processes can be rooted with 2 methods:

  1. Transplant into the ground. This method is relevant only if there are already more than 6 leaflets on the plant.
  2. A large sheet is tied to a sponge impregnated with peat.

It is worth noting that in natural conditions the plant is propagated by seeds. However, at home, this is not possible. Even it is very difficult to get seeds suitable for cultivation, since they are not always able to give sunrises.

Kinds

This culture has a wide variety of species. All of them have their own characteristics and advantages. Some of them deserve a more detailed consideration.

Barter

This is a universal appearance that takes root not only in water, but also on land. His homeland is the African continent. Leaves are painted in various shades of green palette. They have a beautiful glossy surface. The sheet itself is quite durable. To tear it off, you will need to make efforts. That is why Barter can be placed in an aquarium with various fish and underwater animals.

The length of the sheet can reach 10 cm, and the width – 5 cm. This type has quite thick creeping roots. A mature mini-drone in natural conditions can grow up to 30 cm. In the aquarium, such growth is not possible. In this case, Barter will be about 2 times less. Despite many advantages, this type has a lack – Few people managed to see his flowering.

Caladifolia

The peculiarity of the species is the location of the leaves. They are attached almost perpendicular to the petiole. The length of the leaf is on average 15 cm. It has an oval-elliptical form with a pointed tip. After the height of caladifolia reaches the surface of the water, part of the bush must be cut. It is interesting to note that this type has a long petiole, which is often the length of the leaf itself.

It is worth noting the existence of an unusual subspecies of caladifolia called «1705». It was created by breeders from Australia. The difference between the variety and all others is in the form of leaves – heartshaped.

Giant

This species is not in vain. It fully characterizes this plant – This is a huge bush, which houses over 30 leaflets, each of which is approximately 90 cm. To grow giant anubias at home, a large aquarium will be required. However, this look grows very slowly. About 3 sheets appear on it for a month.

Important! «Dry» a form grown in a palyudarium will not survive in the case of a sharp immersion. In this case, a smooth transition from the air form to the water.

Zhille

The birthplace of this species, like many others, is Africa. In natural conditions, the gilles can have quite large sizes. When growing in the aquarium, it will be small. It takes root well in humid greenhouses and paleshodariums. When growing in the aquarium, it may need additional top dressing. Due to the lack of micro and macro elements, he loses his decorative properties.

Zhille tolerates the lack of light well. It is a fairly shadetobearing plant. If you create the right conditions, you can see how this type blooms. A flower 2-3 cm is formed on the peduncle. You can get seeds from the fetus, but from them it will not be possible to grow anubias.

Nana pet

This species was created by breeders from Singapore. In the process of growth, Nana Petit forms low, but at the same time dense thickets. The color of the foliage is dark green. It has an elongated, slightly elongated shape. Planting a plant preferably in the forefront. So the view will look more impressive.

AFCELES

This is a beautiful decorative plant. Because of its decorative properties, it needs special care. Due to the short rhizome, the structure of the apotzel resembles cryptocorins and echinodorus. She has elegant lanceolate leaflets, slightly pointed. Keep in mind that the root system of this type is developing underground. Based on this, when landing, the culture must be deepened.

AFCELS grows very slowly – 1-2 sheets per month. The plant needs scattered lighting. Leaves should not be covered with algae. For proper development and growth, it will be necessary to ensure good filtration and regular change of water. If you neglect these rules, then the culture will begin «throw away» foliage.

For this type, it is preferable to choose stained soil. The water temperature should be 25-29°FROM. Propagate the plant in a damp air. So its growth will be active.

Gold

Another breeding form. Young plants have a bright golden color of foliage. As it grows, it becomes saturated green. The height of the bush is 10 cm. Like all representatives of this kind, golden anubias grows very slowly. When landing, you should not strongly deepen the roots. This can provoke a decay process. Small gravel is suitable as the soil.

To get gold leaflets, you need to properly set the light. When experimenting with him, one should not forget when the formation of algae.

Golden anubias needs additional top dressing. Mineral fertilizers or carbon dioxide are best suited.

Fertilizers of the plant

If the plant is planted in the ground, then it should be nutritious. It is recommended to add top dressing additionally. For this, a mixture of sand with coal, or silt with peat are suitable for this. You can also use nitrogenous fertilizers or a solution of boron and calcium. The latter has a positive effect on plant growth.

If the leaves begin to turn yellow, then treat them with potassium solution. To fill in the deficiency of vitamin D and provide proper mineral nutrition will help the ironiron.

The plant needs top dressing during growth.

Interesting Facts

Wanting to decorate your aquarium Anubias, it will be useful to find out a few interesting facts about him:

  1. «Anubias» – This is not only the name of the plant, but also the name of the Egyptian gods.
  2. In the natural environment, driftwood and large fragments of porous volcanic rocks are a kind of anchor for Anubias, for which they cling to resist the onslaught of water.
  3. Culture is able to survive even in extremely harsh conditions.
  4. Not all aquarists manage to see Anubias flowering. However, this is a rather beautiful phenomenon. The plant begins to bloom in the spring. At this time, it throws up a white flower wrapped in a green leaf.
  5. The first samples of this plant appeared in Europe already in 1899.

Today, this culture is widely used both for the local decoration of the aquarium and for creating a voluminous composition. The valleys looks good as an imitation. In combination with high herbs located in the background, you can create the effect of visual expansion of the aquarium.
