Origin story
The breed was specially bred to hunt kangaroos that harm farmers, it has been known since the 18th century. The Australian Greyhound is the result of crossing a Greyhound and a Deerhound.
Today, marsupial hunting is banned. The functions of the greyhound began to be reduced to baiting small game and participating in dog races. The breed is on the verge of extinction, it is bred only in the remote corners of Australia. One can only regret that the Australian greyhounds did not interest cynologists from other countries with proper selection, one could create an ideal sports dog.

Description
The Australian Greyhound is a harmonious, slender but powerful dog with light and beautiful movements. The animal is ferocious, fast and agile. The skeleton is elongated, paws are high, a narrow head with strong jaws.
Her coat can be short, hard, smooth or mixed.
The standard does not impose special requirements for color, as, however, usually happens with hunting dogs; light shades are more common, uniform and with spots, there are also black animals.
Character
The Australian Greyhound took the best qualities from his eminent ancestors, which is useful for hunting, but she is a rather aggressive animal with a complex character, which begins to appear already from puppyhood. Such dogs are not very suitable as a companion, except for protection. The dog only recognizes his master if he turns out to be firm enough in education and wins unquestioned authority.
Care
The Australian Greyhound is a hardy, unpretentious animal, although not adapted to cold climates, since the undercoat is not developed.
The short hair of the dog does not require special care, it is enough to comb it once a week. Bathe only when it gets dirty. Ears, claws, eyes of the dog are treated if necessary.

Conditions of detention
Keeping these dogs in an apartment is not worth it, they need large enclosures, and individual ones, since Australian greyhounds can fight among themselves.
The breed has great potential for sports. With the right and hard upbringing of Australian greyhounds, you can grow champions. The dog needs a lot of exercise. If the dog does not receive them, thereby dumping energy, then it will direct it to aggression and destructive actions.
You can’t buy a puppy of this breed in Russia. With some perseverance, Australian greyhound puppies will be found in their historical homeland. The price will start from 1 thousand US dollars.
