Character
Azawakh belongs to the group of greyhounds. These delicate and graceful animals have been a symbol of prosperity and status of their owners for more than one hundred years. The main Azawakh breeders were the nomads of the Sahara. Animals served them not only as hunting assistants, but also were excellent guards and protectors. Isolated from the outside world, this breed of dog developed in the harsh desert climate. For the first time, the world learned about these animals only at the end of the 20th century, but the Azawakh did not receive much distribution. Today, this breed can rarely be seen at exhibitions, and in their homeland, dogs are still bred only for practical purposes, when a person needs a hunting assistant.
The nature of the Azawakh matches his exotic appearance. This is a dog of one owner, which has a pronounced territorial attachment. Representatives of the breed are calm, attentive and intelligent. Often in their behavior you can catch a slight wildness and even unsociableness. Sometimes the Azawakh prefers to spend time alone. It’s all about the historical nature of the relationship with the owner. A dog in Africa does not start up for affection and love, therefore the greyhound herself almost never shows emotions.
However, much in the character of a dog depends on education. By themselves, these animals are wary and even wary of strangers, but this can be corrected if socialization is started in a timely manner. At the same time, it is not worth expecting that due to socialization the dog will become more open and sociable the Azawakh will simply be indifferent to strangers.
Representatives of this breed get along well with other dogs in the house, subject to a clear hierarchy in the family. At home, the Azawakh lives in a flock, so he quite easily divides the territory with relatives. However, small animals, including cats, can be problematic. The hunting instinct affects, and if the dog can still get used to “their” cats, then it is unlikely to the neighbors.

Azawakh is indifferent to children. It cannot be said that he is delighted with the kids, but he will not show aggression either. Here, too, much depends on the particular individual and family. One thing is for sure: this is not a dog for a child, and even a teenager should not be trusted to raise an animal. Azawakh needs a strong calm owner who will accept the independence and independence of the animal.
Care
Azawakh the owner of a thin coat of short hairs. There is often no hair at all on the abdomen and in the groin area. Therefore, care for representatives of this breed requires minimal. It is only necessary to regularly check the condition of the teeth and eyes of the animal.

Conditions of detention
The African Hound, as you might expect, does not tolerate cold very well. Hot sun, dry air ideal conditions for representatives of this breed.
Content in a city apartment will definitely not benefit the Azawakh. The dog will be happy living in a private house with a large yard. These animals need many hours of daily walks, the opportunity to run freely and regular training.
