The history of the breed American bobtail began in the 1960s in the USA. The Sanders family held a vacation in the Indian reservation in South Arizona, where she accidentally found a cat with a very short tail. They called him iodine and decided to take it with them to Aiova. The first crossing took place with the Siamese cat Misha, and among the born kittens, one inherited a short tail from the pope. So the selection work began on the removal of a new breed an American bobtail. It was officially recognized in 1989 by the TICA Association.
The American bobtail, like its Kurilsky relative, has a genetic feature. A short tail appeared in a cat as a result of a natural mutation. Its average length is from 2.5 to 10 cm, in the breeders, individuals are valued, in the tails of which there are no creases and nodules. There are no two bobtails with the same tails in the world. By the way, like the Kurilsky, the American bobtail has a special structure of the hind legs. The abority of the breed is affected. The fact is that they are slightly longer than the front ones, which makes the cat incredibly jumping.
This curious, active and very smart cat will become an ideal companion for both families and single people. Despite the fact that cats of this breed are not at all obsessive, they adore their master and do not tolerate loneliness. Owners say that, rejoicing, these cats wag their tail exactly like dogs.
Representatives of this breed are very attached to a person. Surprising their sensitivity and ability to understand the mood of the owner. By the way, this breed is even considered therapeutic: cats participate in psychotherapy.
In addition, they are very friendly. Finding a common language with a dog or with other cats for them will not be difficult. If there is a child in the house, be careful: together this couple can turn the house upside down.
Care
The complexity of the care depends on the type of cat’s wool. Shorthaired representatives of the breed do not require frequent combing. It is enough to comb the cat as the wool molting increases. But after a halfdemonstrate bobtail you will have to care more carefully. Such cats have a thick undercoat, which must be combed out almost daily in summer and autumn, when the hairline changes. The owner will need a good brush with natural bristles. Make sure that it does not electize the hairs.
Bobtail bathing infrequently, especially if the pet does not go outside. But the kitten should be accustomed to brushing your teeth since childhood, as well as a claw haircut.
