  • Character

The Curly Coated Retriever is one of the oldest dogs bred in England. His ancestors are Newfoundland and English Water Spaniel. Also related to the Setter, Poodle and Irish Water Spaniel. The breed standard was first adopted over a century ago in 1913, and the Curly Coated Retriever was registered in the FCI in 1954.

Representatives of the breed are not only excellent companions, but also excellent service and hunting dogs. They help a person at customs, in the police, and sometimes even act as guides. Intelligent and balanced curlies will suit both families with children and single people.

A distinctive feature of the Curly Coated Retriever is its devotion. The pet will love all family members equally, without singling out anyone. However, the head of the family will have to show from the very beginning who is the leader of the “pack” after all.

Curlies are calm dogs, but even modest and quiet representatives of the breed require training. Sometimes they can be stubborn and even overconfident. No wonder the breeders claim that this is the most independent of all retrievers.

Excellent guards are obtained from curlyhaired retrievers. Unlike their closest brothers, they are not too gullible to strangers and prefer to make contact gradually.

Kerley get along well with other animals. They are favorably treated by younger comrades, even cats. A special attachment will be to the animals with which the puppy grew.

With children, a curlyhaired retriever easily makes contact, but he will not tolerate pranks and “torment”, so the child must explain the rules of conduct with the dog. Once an offended dog will no longer continue communication with children.

Kerley’s special curly hair is his main advantage. And it requires appropriate care. The dog must be combed with a massage brush, bathe, distributing curls. After combing, you can stroke the pet with a damp hand so that the fluffed hairs again take shape.

    Conditions of detention

Curlyhaired retriever hunting breed. Like all hunters, he needs a lot of movement, intense physical exercises and running. It will be difficult to live within the city, especially if you do not pay proper attention to the walks. But outside the city, in a private house, Kerley will truly be happy. Active walks and fresh air are vital for these wonderful curly pets.
