The name of the Bandog breed arose in the XIV century, when the British owners of mastifshaped dogs contained pets as guards on the chain. Literally from English, Bandog translates as “a dog on a leash”: band “lean, rope”, and DOG “dog”.
In their modern form, Bandogi appeared not so long ago in the second half of the 20th century. The breed arose as a result of crossing the American Pit Bulterier, Staffordshire Terrier and the Neapolitan Mastiff. The breeders wanted to get the perfect fighting dog as huge as a mastiff, and bloodthirsty, like a pit bull. However, in reality, the American Bandog is quite different from its ancestors.
By the way, it is necessary to educate the puppy of the American Bandog immediately, from the moment of its appearance in the house, otherwise an independent dog will decide to try on the role of a pack leader. If there is little experience or it is absent, then you can’t do without a dog handler. Remember that puppies are extremely necessary for early socialization, and the owner must carefully monitor the process of acquaintance of the pet with the surrounding world.
Bandog is a dog of one master, although it will surely get along with all family members. True, you should not expect recognition, affection and emotions from him, since this dog is not inclined to demonstrate its feelings and moods.
It is interesting that the Bandog belongs to other animals in the house rather condescendingly. If the puppy grew next to them, it is very likely that the neighbors will be friends. The children of the American Bandog are loyal, but you should not count on the dog as a nanny: for a long time to endure children’s games, laughter and pranks of Bandog is unlikely to be.
Care
American Bandog has a short wool, which is easy to care for. It does not need to be thoroughly combed out, it is enough to draw it with a damp hand or a towel to remove the dropped hairs. American Bandog is not a decorative dog, and it will be difficult for him to live in the city. The best option is a private house outside the city.
