  • Character

Despite the formidable appearance, the English mastiff does not distinguish ferocity, cruelty and intolerance to strangers. On the contrary, this is a very balanced and calm dog, which will never rush to fulfill the order of the owner without weighing everything for and against. Because of this feature, there are often problems with training: representatives of this breed are very stubborn, and their obedience can be achieved only by earned confidence. But, if the training of the teams seems boring to the dog, nothing will make it fulfill it. Since this is a big and serious dog, its training must be done. You cannot forget about the educational process, for this breed it is necessary. So, a correctly educated English mastiff will easily get along with the whole family, including with children, and will live in the world with other animals. But when communicating with a pet with very young children, the situation needs to be controlled. This is a rather large dog, and it can involuntarily injure the child.

Mastiff does not like active and outdoor games, as well as long walks. It is quite slow and passive. The pet of this breed is enough for a short walk. At the same time, he does not tolerate the heat well, and therefore in the warm season it is better to walk it early in the morning and late in the evening. English mastiff does not like when he is forced to walk, so if the animal lost interest in her during the walk, you can safely turn around and go home.

Representatives of this breed behave perfectly on the street: they do not panic and never bark for no reason, and if they don’t like something (for example, loud noise or vanity), they just go away. In addition, this dog perfectly feels the mood of the owner, adapts to him, but she herself needs a response to his understanding and attention from his side.

    Care

Although mastiffs are shorthaired dogs, they are quite strong, so it is recommended to comb them daily with a highquality rubber brush and a massage glove. Taking into account the size of the pet, this process takes a lot of time. It is recommended to wash it as it is contaminated, but not too often on average once every six months.

It is also worth monitoring the ears and eyes of the dog and, if necessary, wipe them with a cotton pad moistened in water or a special solution. It is recommended to wipe the folds on the muzzle with a wet soft tissue with a wet soft cloth twice a week.

Mastiffs are characterized by abundant salivation, so the owner should always have a soft napkin on hand, so that from time to time to wipe the face and mouth with an animal. Firstly, this will protect furniture, and secondly, an excessive amount of saliva contributes to the spread of bacteria.

    Conditions of detention

Due to large sizes, dogs of this breed live in a city apartment, which is why the perfect place of residence for them is a country house.
