    The Great Vendée Griffon is the largest dog bred in the French department of the Vendée. The first mention of this breed dates back to the 16th century. It was created for hunting big game: wild boars, deer and foxes. The ancestors of the Great Vendée Griffon are the ancient dogs Canis Segusius, as well as the Griffon Fov de Bretagne.

It is believed that the best method of training these dogs is a positive reinforcement, and the fastest they learn hunting teams.

    The Great Vendée Griffon is a real hunter, reckless and purposeful. It works great in swampy and forested areas and is not afraid of water. It is interesting that, despite the outstanding working qualities, in the 20th century the popularity of these dogs began to decline sharply, and in the middle of the century the breed was on the verge of extinction. However, devoted fans-breeders managed to restore it.

    The Great Vendée Griffon is warm to children. In the process of playing with kids, the dog shows enviable patience. However, no matter how positive and predictable the pet’s behavior may seem, it’s not worth leaving the animal alone with the child it’s still a working breed, not a companion.
