  • this breed of dog (its other name is the German Wolfspitz) is not widespread in the world;
  • The largest representative of the Spits, has a strong physique and thick wool of the “wolf” color, and the appearance of the breed has not changed much since its appearance;
  • in the USA and other countries, Keeshonds are used for pet therapy and trained to work in hospices. It is believed that the energy of these dogs can help with depression, panic or nervous condition.
  • Character

    Representatives of this breed love active games so much that they can play too much and accidentally damage the furniture in the house. They are very sociable and prefer to spend time in the company of a person. Often they require increased attention to themselves, but they will not bother the owner, as they feel his mood very subtly, and at a difficult moment in life they can become almost a personal psychologist. Thanks to these qualities, Keeshonds are used in psychiatry to correct the behavior of sick people.

    Dogs of this breed are characterized by good health and endurance: the Keeshond is able to withstand significant physical exertion, so it will be an ideal companion for those who love to play sports. For example, he can keep company during a long run or bike ride. And since he does not like to sit still, he will only be happy to communicate and activities in nature. Moreover, he needs a variety of physical activities to throw out energy. That’s why a dog of this breed should not be taken by very busy people who are at work all day. Staying home all the time is not good for this dog.

    Keeshonds are very distrustful of strangers, which means that this quality can be used to develop the dog’s guarding abilities.

    There will be no difficulties with training a pet, since this smart and quick-witted animal, trying to please the owner, will quickly master even complex tricks. But do not forget that these dogs are very sensitive to intonation: if you raise your voice during a Keeshond training, this will discourage him from any desire to practice.

    Care

    The main problem of the Keeshond is wool, which requires delicate and painstaking care. It needs to be combed daily or at least every other day. For washing, you need to choose the right shampoo that will not cause an allergic reaction in your pet. But you should not get involved in frequent bathing they can lead to skin irritation and loss of the protective layer of wool. By the way, representatives of this breed are very fond of water and, at any opportunity, will gladly swim in a river or in a pond.

    Care must be taken in the nutrition of the animal: the diet must be selected carefully, not forgetting that these dogs have a weak digestive system, and there is also a tendency to obesity.

    Conditions of detention

    Thanks to the thick and thick coat, Keeshonds do not freeze, and therefore, even in the cold season, they can be outside for a long time (for example, live on a personal plot). Nevertheless, it is better to keep a pet in a house or in an apartment, since communication with the owner for these dogs is in the first place.
