  • Character

Representatives of the Manx breed come from the Isle of Man, located in the Irish Sea. It is not known for certain how tailless cats got to this island, but there is a whole legend about the history of their occurrence. According to her, the cat ran last to Noah’s ark, and Noah hurriedly slammed the door, pinching the animal’s tail, and it completely fell off. However, from a scientific point of view, a dominant mutated gene is responsible for the short Manx tail. Isolation on the Isle of Man and frequent inbreeding have led to an increase in the number of anurans.

Interestingly, today there are four varieties of Manx depending on the length of its tail: rumpy (rumpy) “sacral”, riser (riser) “growth”, stumpy (stumpy) “short” and longy (longy) “long”. Rumpy has no tail at all, riser has a small growth consisting of one to three vertebrae, stumpy has a short tail consisting of four to eight vertebrae, and longi has an ordinary long tail. The latter are most often involved in breeding, this is due to the peculiarities of breeding. The fact is that crossing two tailless cats can lead to problems with the spine in kittens and their death.

Despite this feature, Manx cats are very energetic, active and cheerful cats. Their hind legs, like those of the Kuril Bobtail, are longer than the front ones. Therefore, these cats are excellent jumpers and funny runners. From the outside, they look a bit like rabbits.

The character of the Manx is similar to that of a dog. Many owners teach their pets commands and claim that they can easily perform “Aport”. These cats are peaceful and loyal, they follow their owner everywhere and are hard pressed for a long separation. Therefore, for a lonely person who spends most of his time away from home, Manx is unlikely to suit.

Representatives of this breed are excellent hunters. The owner of such a pet should be prepared for the fact that in the conditions of life outside the city, the cat will most likely bring home its prey. True, this is why Manx communication with house mice, rats and other rodents should be limited. The hunting instinct can affect their “friendship” and neighborhood. But Manx dogs easily find a common language if they are peacefully disposed.

Manx cat will be a great friend to the child. By virtue of her intellect, she is able to understand that in front of her is a small master. Most likely, in the event of a quarrel, she will prefer to quickly leave.

    Care

Grooming for Manx cats depends on the type of coat. Short-haired representatives are recommended to be wiped with a damp towel once a week and combed with a massage brush.

Long-haired Cymrics will have to be combed a little more often: a couple of times a week, and during the molting period every two to three days.

    Conditions of detention

Manx are able to live both in a city apartment and outside the city. The main thing is to provide the cat with personal space and give her the opportunity to throw out energy. Manx love to jump, so they will be happy with tall houses and intricate designs.
