The miniature pinscher is a cheerful and inquisitive dog that is always ready to keep its owner company. Small size and aristocratic appearance make her a bright personality. These are active, cheerful and smart dogs that can brighten up gray everyday life and “cure” anyone from sadness. Fearless but not reckless. Miniature Pinschers will always choose tactics and ingenuity to outwit the enemy. They don’t like to fight right away. If the dog sees that he is clearly losing, he will be able to submit, but with the maximum sense of dignity.

Pros and cons of miniature pinschers

    Advantages of miniature pinschers:

  • Dogs can be trained to pee on a diaper. For those who do not have time to take a walk with their pet in the morning or are often late at work, this option will come in handy. This practice is an excellent prevention of the occurrence of diseases of the genitourinary system.
  • The small size of the dog allows her to feel comfortable even in a small apartment. This is an ideal dog for keeping in an urban environment.
  • They lend themselves well to training, love to learn new things and are willing to work with the owner.
  • Miniature Pinschers get along well with children. Happy to take part in outdoor games.
  • High intelligence allows you to quickly analyze the situation in order to make the most correct decision. This is not the dog that hesitates and thinks for a long time.
  • Miniature Pinscher Disadvantages:

  • More than other breeds of dogs tend to chew things.
  • They don’t like loneliness. Therefore, they are not suitable for those people who are not at home for a long time. Alone, dogs begin to suffer, and boredom can turn everything upside down.
  • They may react inappropriately, bark, rush at strangers and dogs if they have not received proper socialization and education. This is due to the innate watchdog instinct.
  • Description of miniature pinschers

Modern miniature pinschers that attend exhibitions can be divided into intrabreed types. The fact is that in each country, breeders, when breeding a breed, were guided by their own considerations and traditions. Therefore, dogs from different countries may have characteristic differences in appearance. For example, American, English and Canadian Miniature Pinschers move very gracefully and generally look more sophisticated. But immigrants from Italy are a small copy of the Doberman, their movements are sweeping and confident. “Germans” are more squat, stocky, with well-developed muscles. Dogs from the Scandinavian countries are unshakable, self-confident and more calm. But, of course, there is a general breed standard that all purebred dogs must meet.

The head is in proportion to the body. Its shape is like a wedge with a blunt end. The transition from the forehead to the muzzle is clearly visible, but it is quite smooth. Muzzle slightly shorter than skull. The skull itself is elongated. The bridge of the nose is completely straight. His earlobe is black, well pigmented. Nostrils well developed. Lips tightly pressed to the teeth, dark shade. Corners do not sag.

The jaws of the miniature pinscher are strong, in the mouth there is a full set of white and strong teeth. Bite scissor. Jaws clench tight. Chewing muscles are clearly visible.

    Eyes

Small, oval-shaped eyes with a dark chocolate iris. The eyelids are thin, tightly fit to the eyeballs.

    Ears

Sit high on the skull and have a triangular shape. Can stand or hang on cartilage. In the latter case, their tips should touch the cheekbones.

    Neck

The neck of the tsvergpincher is dry and sinewy, there is no suspension. Elongated and curved, it gives the dog a proud look.

    Frame

These dogs have quite long limbs. But their withers are well developed enough to give the body to the corps. Therefore, the tsvergpinchs do not look upturned on the limbs. The back line is straight, with a slight slope from the head to the tail. The chest is wide, with oval ribs. Its front part is slightly fed forward. The back is short, wellwrapped. Together with a short lower back makes the dog compact and proportional. When looking from the side, the case has the shape of a square.

    Tail

The tail is planted on the case quite high. But its tip should not be located towards the head. At competitions, judges, evaluating the conformation of dogs, award more points to those whose tails are shaped like a saber or a sickle.

    limbs

Limbs, both hind and fore, have pronounced joint angles. They are fairly wide. The forelegs are straight when viewed from the front or side of the dog. Forearms pronounced, with developed muscles. The hind limbs are slightly set back when viewed from the side of the dog. If you look at the miniature pinscher from behind, it will be noticeable that the limbs are parallel to each other. Hips wide, well muscled. Legs are powerful.

The paws are round in shape, the fingers are not long, they fit snugly together. Nails short, black. The hind legs are slightly larger and more elongated than the forelegs.

    Gait / Movement

The movements of the dog are very energetic and confident. The miniature pinscher, when running, is strongly repelled from the surface with its hind limbs. Sweeping steps, front paws carried far forward. When moving, the back always remains flat, the dog balances well.

In America, Canada and England, the presence of a prancing gait is very important for representatives of this breed. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the dog literally drums in the air with its front paws. It looks like a horse gait. It appears when the angle of the shoulder becomes straight, so the forelimbs take a much shorter step than the hind limbs. Therefore, the animal is forced to raise its front legs much higher so that they do not fall under the hind legs.

It is noteworthy that the FCI standards do not recognize such a gait. Therefore, it is considered a vice.

    wool cover

Representatives of this breed of dogs have a thick coat, but smooth and short. The undercoat is absent, and the outer hair is rather hard and close to the body. Bald patches are unacceptable. Miniature Pinscher is not prone to molting. But the lack of an undercoat makes dogs very sensitive to the cold.

    Color

According to the international standard, there are only two officially recognized colors of the Miniature Pinscher. This is a deer, which is also called fawn-red, as well as black and tan. In the first case, the shade can be from reddish red to dark brown. In the second pure black or chocolate tan. At the same time, they should be clearly visible, with pronounced edges. The presence of tan marks on such parts of the body is allowed: above the eyes, in the throat area, on the limbs and under the tail. On the chest there should be two tan marks of the same size in a triangular shape.

In the US and Canada, other colors of miniature pinschers are also acceptable. Dogs with blue, chocolate and isabella hair are recognized.

    Size and weight

Miniature Pinschers are small, compact dogs. The growth of males at the withers can reach 30 centimeters, and their weight is from 4 to 6 kilograms. Bitches are a little smaller, but not essential. Their height does not exceed 28 centimeters, and their weight is 5 kilograms.

The nature of the miniature pinscher

The size of this dog is in no way reflected in its character. In the soul this is a brave, bold and self-confident animal. These dogs do not seem to know that they weigh about five kilograms. Therefore, they are always ready to stand up for themselves and their master. The energy of miniature pinschers is just in full swing. And cunning and curiosity allow them to always be at the center of any events. These dogs love attention from their family.

Love and devotion in these crumbs in abundance. The miniature pinscher is ready to give it to its owner around the clock. And he does it very emotionally. But the dog is not averse to becoming a full leader in order to take the main place in the family. Therefore, do not be deceived by the tiny size of the dog. He needs a strict and fair owner. If you do not show which of you is in charge, then this vacant position will be immediately filled. And the natural cunning and resourcefulness of the representatives of this breed will deftly manipulate its owner.

Dogs are very sensitive to human moods. If the miniature pinscher understands that you can be pushed around, then he will do it all the time. If you forgive him a couple of times for pranks, seeing a plaintive look and an unhappy look, then such a tactic of behavior will become a habit for the dog. At the same time, he will constantly test you for strength. His antics will start to go further and further. And the animal will try to demonstrate its dominant position at any opportunity. Because of this, conflicts can occur not only with people, but also with large dogs. Therefore, it is recommended to always take the Miniature Pinscher to busy places on a leash.

In relation to other animals, the miniature pinscher behaves aggressively. He is not set up for friendship with cats, birds, or rodents. If you want a cat to live in your house, then you should start it with a dog. Only if the pets grow up together will they be able to get along under the same roof in the future.

Representatives of this breed feel confident not only because of megalomania and proud character. Dogs, despite their small size, have strong jaws with sharp teeth, quick reactions and well-developed muscles. Therefore, the miniature pinscher considers himself the main defender of his family and territory. If a stranger decides to invade her or dares to offend the owner, then the dog will rush to his defense without hesitation. Unfortunately, representatives of this breed almost always underestimate the enemy. Their courage and recklessness can lead to sad consequences.

Sloth and miniature pinscher are incompatible. These are completely opposite concepts. Dogs are always busy and in search of adventure. They are very inquisitive, so they will intervene even where they do not ask. The dog will not be stopped by any obstacles. These dogs can climb furniture, crawl through the narrowest gaps. Your pet will surely surprise you with its ingenuity in terms of antics. And miniature pinschers love to learn various tricks, then to demonstrate them to their family. Your good mood and laughter will be his best reward.

    Education and training

If you want to try your hand at training, then the miniature pinscher is perfect for this. This dog has a high level of intelligence. This allows the animal to memorize commands and tricks very quickly. The dog is engaged in pleasure and interest in the process. But it is important to remember that some features of this breed can become a serious problem.

These dogs will never miss a chance to be in charge. They will try to do it as a puppy and will continue to try as an adult. Therefore, it is better to keep your eyes open with miniature pinschers. Do not let the dog put pressure on pity, show stamina, consistency and rigor. Excessive love can spoil the dog, and he will become uncontrollable.

But no need to go to extremes. Screaming and assault must be completely excluded. Never swing at an animal, do not raise your voice at it. This may result in changes in his behavior. The dog will become either too cowardly or aggressive. Miniature Pinscher subtly captures the mood of the owner. Therefore, he will immediately understand what you are unhappy with. And as a reward, give the baby goodies, encourage him with strokes and caresses.

Build a training methodology based on repeated repetition of commands and perform them sequentially. Teaching discipline and obedience can take a long time. Do not forget that in addition to an inquisitive mind, stubbornness comes with a miniature pinscher. Do not give up, when the dog understands that you will not back down, he will begin to fulfill your requests.

This dog will have no problems working even with the most complex shells. She is able to easily climb them, overcome obstacles that exceed her height by five to six times. Add to this excellent maneuverability. And we get the perfect dog for agility. Good news for those who want to participate in this type of dog sport, but cannot get a large animal.

The miniature pinscher needs to be socialized as early as possible. This dog desperately loves his family, but he can have problems with strangers. As soon as the puppy appears in the house, invite guests to get used to the people in your home. After vaccinations, take him outside. He must learn to interact with other dogs and react calmly to animals.

At home, an ill-mannered dog can start to mischief. Such a small animal can bring big problems. Miniature Pinschers gnaw wires, shoes, furniture. In general, everything that lies badly. If you have flowers in pots, then their contents may be of interest to a fidget. Such encroachments towards your property should be stopped immediately. Give your pet more time, walk with him, buy some rubber bones, balls and other toys.

Maintenance and care of miniature pinschers

This dog should live with his family under the same roof. There can be no talk of any enclosure if you live in a private house. First, it will offend your pet. After all, the miniature pinscher wants to spend every second with the owner. Secondly, the coat of the miniature pinscher will not protect his case from the cold. Even the warmest booth will not save the baby.

Of course, not a single dog will refuse a large fenced area, even such a small one. He will gladly go around his possessions. Do not forget that the fence must be high. The dog can jump over it or dig it.

But the miniature pinscher will feel no less happy in an apartment, even a one-room apartment. But the owner should make sure that the dog has something to do with himself. Especially in the absence of a person. There is a lot of energy in this small body. And it needs to be spent so that it does not turn into a destructive form. This is why you need to walk your dog three times a day. And these walks must be active. Throw a ball to your dog, go for a run, learn new tricks. It is good if you find a secluded and safe place where your pet can frolic without a leash.

While walking, do not forget some important points. In the cold season, the miniature pinscher will be comfortable on the street, provided that the dog is always on the move. For leisurely walks, it is better to buy overalls. It can protect against snow, rain and cold wind. If the “undressed” dog got caught in the rain, then it is better to take it in your arms and go home to prevent hypothermia. It is better to dry the wool with a hairdryer or wrap the dog in a towel.

Miniature Pinschers practically do not shed. Therefore, hair care will not cause much trouble. A couple of times a week you can comb the dog with a special brush or mitt. To remove dirt after a walk, the dog is wiped with a damp cloth. You can wash your miniature pinscher with a special shampoo no more than once a month. Otherwise, the natural barrier on the skin will be broken, peeling will begin, hair will fall out.

Once a month, the dog is also given other hygiene procedures. It’s nail trimming, teeth brushing. Ears and eyes should be checked regularly and wiped with a cotton swab dipped in lotion if needed.

    Food

Miniature Pinscher cannot be called a voracious dog. But in the cold season, his appetite may increase. This is due to the fact that the dog consumes more energy and needs to be replenished. Very often this leads to weight gain, which is fraught with health problems. Stick to your pet’s normal diet. If you notice that he has lost weight or began to ask for food more often, you can slightly increase the portion.

An adult miniature pinscher is fed twice a day in the morning and in the evening. It is better to do this at the same time, immediately after a walk. So your pet will be more active outdoors.

For the Miniature Pinscher, it is better to choose a commercial food for small breeds with small granules. It contains all the essential nutrients and vitamins a healthy dog needs. You do not have to select products yourself, manufacturers have already done this for you. High-quality feed should contain a lot of natural meat. It is important for dogs to get their protein intake. Fish, eggs, offal, cereals and vegetables are added to the meat. Additionally, the granules include vitamins and minerals. You can choose from both dry and wet food in cans. They can be combined. Remember that your pet should always have round-the-clock access to drinking water.

Don’t Overdo Treats When Rewarding Your Pet. Representatives of this breed are so small that just a few extra pieces a day can already lead to the appearance of excess fat at the waist.

    Miniature Pinscher Health

Representatives of this breed are distinguished by excellent health and live long enough. But miniature pinschers have diseases that they are more prone to than others. These include:

  • retinal atrophy. This disease causes vision loss, very often total blindness.
  • Peters disease. Manifested in violation of the functioning of the femoral head. Occurs in puppies between four and six months of age. Causes muscle atrophy and lameness.
  • Epilepsy. Neurological disorder that causes recurrent seizures.
  • Hypothyroidism. In the body of a dog, the exchange of hormones is disturbed. This leads to consequences such as weight gain, hair loss and many others.
  • Dislocation of the patella. Can be either congenital or acquired. This pathology is common in all dogs of small breeds.
  • History of the breed

Miniature Pinscher is also called dwarf or miniature. This breed appeared about two hundred years ago in Germany. Historians have no doubt that the ancestors of this breed were German Pinschers. These dogs settled in Europe during the Middle Ages. They had a lot of advantages, including unpretentiousness in content and versatility. People used German Pinschers to protect their property and territories, and also went hunting with them. They deftly exterminated any rodents than they could secure farms and fields. In addition to German Pinschers, the blood of Italian greyhounds, dachshunds and low greyhounds flows in the veins of the miniature pinscher.

There is evidence that at the beginning of the nineteenth century the height of the pinscher was up to half a meter at the withers. Smaller dogs appeared only in the thirties. Their height was no more than forty centimeters, so they were called dwarf.

Then people began to purposefully breed pinschers, and in 1880 the first breed standard appeared. It was developed by Richard Strebel, who was a cynologist in Germany. Literally after 5 years, a breeder named Bert founded the world’s first Pincher Club in the world. It selects and divide dogs into separate breeds.

In 1900, a dog exhibition was held in Stuttgart, at which miniature pinchers were shown for the first time. They were called the zvergpinchers, since the “zverg” from German is translated as a “dwarf”. Outside Germany at that time, almost no one knew about the breed. But she quickly gained popularity even behind the ocean. In 1905, the Tsvergpincher was officially registered in France for the first time, but called it German smoothhaired terrier.

These dogs got to America only after the First World War. There they were also considered terriers. In 1929, the breed was officially approved, the club of miniature pins appeared. Its members have achieved that the smallest representatives of the breed were attributed to the group of “Toy”. In 1972, the breed again changed its official name to the Miniature Pinscher.

Now this compact breed is popular all over the world. And dogs are still called differently in different countries. But since 1955, the International Canine Organization approved the name miniature pinscher.

    Who is this breed for?

Small miniature miniatures will be ideal companions for those who live in a city apartment. He will feel great even in odnushka. But the owner of the dog must provide the dog with daily active walks. Therefore, for couch potatoes and phlegmatic representatives of this breed will not be the best choice.

The dog is suitable for a family with children, but not too small. The dog can respond to the negligence of the baby with aggression. You should not start a miniature pinscher for those who already have cats or other pets. The dog will not find a common language with them.

These dogs are highly intelligent and therefore easy to train. But for the successful upbringing of this breed, the strong character of the owner is necessary. The miniature pinscher, despite its small size, is a very wayward dog. Therefore, he needs a self-confident owner who will become a leader in relationships for the dog.

    How to choose a puppy

In Russia, a large number of representatives of this breed. Among them are a lot of champions and prize-winners who won first places in competitions and exhibitions around the world. Therefore, it will not be difficult to find a responsible breeder or a worthy cattery.

Don’t buy a dog from the market. Do not trust dubious ads on free sites on the Internet. There is a high probability of getting a non-purebred dog or suffering from congenital diseases.

When meeting a puppy for the first time, pay attention to the behavior of the entire litter. See how they interact with each other, with their mother, a stranger. A bitch should not look exhausted and unkempt. A well-groomed and healthy mother can give the same offspring. Miniature Pinscher puppies should be well-fed, with shiny coat, clean eyes and ears.

Among the entire litter, it is better to choose the most active baby. He should be interested in the outside world, start games with his fellows. Come and stretch your hand to the puppy. He should not be afraid or show aggression. It is good if the baby begins to actively sniff you and study a new person with curiosity.

It is important to study the appearance of the dog. Take the baby in your arms, see if he has the right bite. Feel free to sniff the baby. It should not emit any unpleasant odors. Responsible breeders must keep the bitch and litter clean. The dog’s coat should be free of bald spots or dandruff. But the presence of scratches should not repel you. At this age miniature pinschers actively explore the world. And such consequences are not uncommon.

    The price of miniature pinschers

Too low price for miniature pinscher puppies should alert you. Most likely, these are dogs with breeding marriage or without a pedigree.
