The Nibelungs are amazing cats with a smoky gray coat that resembles fog. From this natural phenomenon, the breed got its name (from it. Nebel. This is a young breed, recognized in the 80s of the last century and inherited its unique blue color from Russian blue cats.
Cats of this breed behave nobly in any situation. They do not impose their communication on the owner, they just need to be close to him. In relation to strangers, they behave prudently: it must take some time before the Nibelung begins to trust a new person. These cats are picky about everything and tend to communicate only with those they like. The Nibelung usually chooses one family member with whom he spends all his time.
Cats of this breed are very quiet and give voice only in case of urgent need. They combine playfulness and calmness, they are kind and smart and even amenable to training. Nibelungs do not really like when they are pestered, so for a family with children, a representative of this breed will not be the best pet. These cats, on the contrary, like calmness and lack of undue attention. However, this does not mean that the Nibelungs love loneliness and avoid communication. They become attached to the owner and miss him greatly during separation. For this reason, if the work of the owners takes a lot of time, they should find a friend for the pet. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cat or a dog: the Nibelungs get along well with everyone. The main thing is that the future cohabitant should match in temperament, which is why it is better not to choose animals of too energetic breeds as friends.
Care
Due to the unusual structure of the hair of the Nibelungs, it is completely not prone to matting, which greatly simplifies its care. However, cats still need to be brushed several times a week. During periods of molting, which takes place in autumn and spring, this should be done more often. You should bathe your pet depending on the degree of wool contamination, but at least once every six months. In this case, you should not use products with coloring pigments this will only spoil the unique natural shade of wool. It also fades when exposed to the sun for a long time.
In addition, the Nebelung’s teeth should be kept clean.
Cats of this breed have good health, and to maintain the beauty of the coat, you need to carefully monitor their nutrition. The diet should be balanced, enriched with vitamins and minerals.
Conditions of detention
Nibelungs differ from most other breeds in that they practically do not need to sharpen their claws (the scratching post of this pet needs to be changed much less often). In addition, they are not too active, so they do not need walks (of course, if the cat itself does not require it). However, the Nibelungs love to climb, so it is better to let them climb on various objects in the house.
It is also important for representatives of this breed to have their own secluded place, it is desirable that it also be located high enough.
