Speaking of the desert, first of all, we represent sandy expanses, where there are no water, no animals, no plants. But such a landscape is not universal, and nature in the desert can be very diverse. In the deserts there are some species of birds, mammals, herbivores, insects and reptiles. So, they have something to eat in the desert.

Despite the hot and dry climate, strong wind and sand storms, lack of precipitation, representatives of the animal world are able to survive in such conditions. Some types of flora have also adapted to these conditions.

What are the living conditions of plants in deserts?

The local flora has devices that survive:

  • thorns;
  • powerful root system;
  • fleshy leaves;
  • Small height.
  • These devices allow plants to gain a foothold in the soil. Long roots reach groundwater, and the leaves hold moisture for a long time.     What types of flora are growing in deserts?

    The plant world of the desert is very unusual. The most common in this natural zone are different types of cacti. They are of different sizes and shapes, but in general it is a massive body and thorns. Some species have been living for about a hundred years.     The variety of plants in the desert is possible, since they have special devices and are significantly different from the vegetation of forests and steppes. If the plants of these natural zones have powerful stems and branches, then desert plants have very thin stems in which moisture accumulates. Leaves and branches are modified to thorns and processes. Some plants instead of leaves have scales, for example, in a saxaul. Despite the fact that desert plants are small in size, they have a long and powerful root system, which allows you to strengthen in sandy soil. On average, the length of the roots reaches 5-10 meters, and in some species and more. This allows the roots to reach groundwater, which plants. So that every shrub, wood or perennial plant receives a sufficient amount of moisture, they grow on a certain plant from each other.

    So, a variety of flora has adapted to life in the desert. So the acts have been living for several decades, and some individuals have been growing for more than 100 years.
