More than 70 percent of the entire surface of our planet is covered by the hydrosphere. It consists of all marine, fresh, underwater and oceanic waters, which, for greater clarity, are combined into the world ocean. The volume of water in it can even be frightening approximately 1400 million cubic kilometers. It is conditionally divided into Indian, Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific. Thanks to the ocean, the climate is formed on the planet, since it is the currents that bring temperature changes, whether it be hot or cold, and the evaporation of the surface of water bodies forms clouds and clouds.

In the event that humanity loses the opportunity to use the resources of the world’s oceans, then the economy, as well as all living organisms in general, will soon die. It would seem that it is hardly possible that people will allow this to happen, but here the situation is very twofold: every day a lot of waste is produced that clogs the atmosphere and water bodies, and if in the case of the atmosphere this is not so critical, because it has the ability to self-purification, even a person cannot purify water with all the desire. Thus, the pollution of the oceans with waste, especially oil, can lead to the death of all mankind.

Sources of pollution

Oil and products of its production are almost the main source of pollution not only of the oceans, but also in principle of nature. This liquid falls into the water after disasters or the crash of ships, but many liters of “black gold” are often discarded from ordinary boats from ordinary boats. Oil literally poisons water, and after the organisms that live in it. Thus, fish, birds, heat transfer of water deteriorate and because of this, temperature changes in the climate occur, because the currents are responsible for its changes.

Causes of pollution

The reasons for the formation of oil pollution of reservoirs in fact there are many. Oil waste can end up in the world’s oceans along with poorly treated wastewater, which is used in industry. Often the oil just spills out and gets lost along the way when I got it. This happens for completely different reasons, but the fact remains: hack work on the part of shipbuilders leads to loss of earnings along with lost oil, and also pollutes the reservoirs themselves, thereby poisoning living organisms and endangering humanity. According to the Research Council, located in the United States, more than 6 million tons of oil enter the oceans every year, such figures even sound wild, let alone the consequences. Approximately 35% of this amount is loss during mining or transportation, 30% from urban runoff, 13% is from factory waste, and the rest is from other, not the most important causes.

Effects

Unfortunately, the environmental consequences of oil pollution bring a lot of problems because they change the climate, destroy the natural habitat for many species of living organisms and accumulate in biomass, which is subsequently eaten by people. Oil is one of those products that decomposes over time, but spreads over the surface of water bodies at high speed. Forming a kind of film, oil waste blocks the flow of air and sunlight into the water, thereby fish and mammals living in shallow water begin to suffer from lack of air and die.

The effect of an oil spill is described by the US Environmental Protection Agency as follows: ten minutes after one ton of oil enters the water, it forms a slick 10 millimeters thick. After that, the thickness decreases and is less than one millimeter, but its width increases and is able to cover up to 12 kilometers. After that, the spot undergoes changes with the help of wind and precipitation, it is not in place and is constantly in motion, arranging drift throughout the entire territory of the reservoir and breaking up into smaller spots. As a result, only one ton, poured into a reservoir, after a week is able to poison the inhabitants of more than 30 square kilometers, thus destroying hundreds of tons of fish.

Solutions

Of the main methods of struggle, one can name the prevention of leakage of oil waste, but so far this is not particularly possible, because the production technology itself is imperfect, it has many flaws. In addition, in many states, including in Eurasia, there is a full-fledged shortage of equipment, which is why the government does not have the opportunity to replace the equipment in time. All this leads to frequent accidents, leaks and other failures, due to which oil goes into the water.

Yes, in the event of an accident, workers begin to clean the reservoir by any means, literally scooping out a layer that poisons the water with shovels and machines, but this is very inefficient and rarely can actually help. Because of this, scientists have developed a radical way to fight: they find the center of infection and blow it up. There are several other solutions, but they will not have an effect until scientists from all over the world cooperate and begin to work on this together.
