  • Origin story

Once upon a time, almost all dogs were mestizos, since various breeds were crossed in order to obtain and consolidate certain traits that breeders needed. And now, literally before our eyes, a new breed is being created. And at the origins of it are representatives of two breeds that are so different both in character and in size, like husky and Pomeranian.

According to some reports, for the first time about a funny dog - a mestizo of a husky and a Pomeranian they started talking in social networks. The owner of the animal was wondering what to expect from a dog with such blood, which he wanted to adopt from a shelter. Interest in an unusual combination of breeds, shown by Internet users, made breeders think too. So, in 2011, the idea to get a litter from a husky and a spitz came up with Teresa Peterson, who was breeding huskies in the USA. And two years later, such puppies were born and were officially registered. In 2013, the Pomsky Club of America (PCA) was organized, which was designed to control the breeding of a new breed and its recognition by the cynological community, including the International Cynological Federation.

Since the breed is in the process of its formation and selection work, in fact, has just begun, the spread in types obtained from crossing puppies is quite large. Depending on whether the husky or Pomeranian genes predominate in the offspring, there are fox-type pomskies, whose representatives have an elongated body, not very powerful bones, erect ears and medium-length red-red hair, as well as the “plush husky” type, for representatives of which are characterized by a compact physique, short muzzle, long soft coat and colors of the husky breed. There are also extremely rare white and brown Poms.

Pomskies are descendants of very active dogs. That huskies, that spitz do not like to sit still and are ready to play with the owner, engage in training, explore something new at least 24 hours a day. These are very lively, inquisitive dogs that have no aggression towards both people and relatives. They are also great with children.

Thanks to the progenitor breeds, most Pomsky get a thick, fluffy coat that needs regular care combing and washing. Combing down and outer hair is especially important during the molting period. Also, representatives of the breed need long active walks and training. It is necessary to start training with pomsky puppies as early as possible.

apartment, home. They need constant communication with a person, since the breed was purposefully bred as companion dogs.

Since representatives of the breed are a kind of exclusive, the most beautiful pomskies can be very expensive.
