Red mountain wolf photo and description | The Red Book of Eurasia

Red Mountain Wolf a predator of the Psovy family, also known as Buansza or the Himalayan Wolf. Actually, this name is not in vain the color of its coat of saturated red color, closer to red. It should be noted that this breed combines several types in terms of the structure of the body, it looks like a jackal, color on the fox, but as for behavior, everything is from the bold and formidable wolf. Unfortunately, if the situation does not change in the near future, the red mountain wolf can only be seen in the photo, since its number is rapidly coming to naught. And all due to the negative influence of a person-due to beautiful wool, the animal is shooting.

Characterization of the breed

Red mountain wolf is beautiful and smart. The animal is characterized by large, as for this type of predator, in size. The length of the body reaches one meter, and in the mass a red wolf reaches 21 kilograms. The muzzle of the mountain wolf is slightly pointed and shortened, the tail is fluffy and drops almost to the ground. In the winter season, the wool becomes thicker and long, its color also changes a little it becomes a little lighter, which allows the wolf to effectively hunt. In the summer of the year the woolen cover becomes shorter, the color is darker.

The habitat is quite extensive-from the mountains of Tien Shan to Altai. But, unfortunately, this is not proportional to the number, since the number of adults and cubs is negligible.

Habitat and food

As for the terrain, here the mountain wolf fully corresponds to its name mountainous areas are optimal for it, with a lot of vegetation. It is noteworthy that the red wolf can easily climb a height of 4000 meters. In the foothills or slopes, the wolf descends extremely rarely. Unlike his relative, a gray wolf, Buanza does not come into conflict with a person and does not attack their homes, in particular livestock. Therefore, it is in a way completely safe.

The red wolf lives in small flocks no more than 15 individuals. There is no obvious leader, and the predator does not show aggressiveness to his relatives. An exception may be a marriage period and then, only if another wolf will claim to the male territory.

As for hunting, this can happen both together with the whole flock and alone. It should be noted that during the attack, the wolves can be driven even by the leopard. At the same time, the diet is quite diverse and includes even lizards, if there is no other, more interesting and tasty prey. It is also noteworthy that the attack on the victim occurs from behind, and not in view of the fight by the throat, as most of the representatives of the dog.

Due to the fact that the population of these animals is reduced, the features of their vital activity, as for propagation, are not well studied enough. It was reliably established that the red mountain wolf monogamen, males take a rather active part in the upbringing of offspring. If we consider the life cycle of the Himalayan wolf in captivity, then the active period of reproduction occurs in the winter. The pregnancy of the female lasts approximately 60 days, in one litter there may be up to 9 puppies. Newborns in their appearance are very similar to a German shepherd, after about 2 weeks their eyes open. By halfyearold age, the cubs in size and appearance are almost the same as adult wolves. It should be noted that in India puppies are born throughout the year, which, in fact, is quite logical, since there is a warm climate.

Researchers in this area notes that if you do not take measures to prevent the death of this breed, soon it may completely disappear.
