Character
Shiba Inu is one of the most ancient dog breeds from Asia. Archaeologists have discovered that the ancestors of the modern Shiba Inu were brought to Japan over two and a half millennia ago. During this time, they managed to adopt the mentality of their owners, so unusual for us.
Shiba Inu differ from most breeds precisely in their character, which, paradoxically, makes them look more like cats than dogs. The main feature is their independence from the owner and restraint in behavior and expression of emotions. These dogs are disciplined, clean and smart. They are very smart and able to quickly understand the requirements of the owner.
However, the Shiba Inu also has its own point of view; in case it does not coincide with the opinion of the owner, dogs of this breed will do everything to make it the way they want. If the Shiba Inu considers his act to be right, then the punishment is meaningless, because the dog will quickly forget it. For this reason, only experienced and strong-willed owners who are able to make the dog respect themselves and recognize themselves as the leader should start a Shiba Inu. However, do not forget that behind the external independence of these dogs lies a tender heart, full of boundless love and devotion to the owner.
Timely and correct socialization is very important in the process of educating Siba-Inu. In its absence, the dog will not get used to either people or other dogs or cats. Dogs of this breed are not playful: they prefer to observe, and not play. You can often notice how Siba Inu plunges into itself and contemplate the world around, like people.
These are very active and hardy dogs with a strong hunting instinct, which without proper training and proper socialization of the pet can bring the owner a lot of troubles. The future owner of Siba-Inu should love to actively spend time, since this is the only way to curb the rapid energy of the dog. These animals are very suspicious and distrustful of strangers, they will not let them in to their territory, so they can be considered wonderful watchmen.
The process of educating Siba-Inu, according to the inhabitants of Japan, is similar to the art of origami. In it, in order to achieve the desired result, a person must show patience, diligence and skill, but at the same time accuracy is also important, since even one careless movement can ruin all the work.
Care
Shiba Inu is a clean breed. These dogs do not like to get their paws dirty in mud or puddles. Their short and dense coat is resistant to dirt, but it must be brushed periodically. Shedding occurs twice a year in autumn and spring. At this time, you will have to comb the dog twice a day. It is also necessary to trim the overgrown hair on the paw pads.
Bathe a Shiba Inu once every six months or when an unpleasant odor appears (in case of severe pollution). Frequent washing robs your dog’s coat and skin of their natural defense mechanisms against dirt.
Dogs of this breed have good health, but can suffer from a number of hereditary diseases. For this reason, it is necessary to carefully select breeders and check all documents of the puppy’s parents.
Conditions of detention
Shiba Inu are very active, so they are only suitable for those who lead or are ready to lead an active lifestyle. Ideal for these dogs is life in a country house with its own plot so they can splash out the accumulated energy. If the future owner lives in the city, he should go jogging with the dog every day and devote a lot of time to outdoor activities and walks with the pet.
