Silk shark, either the Florida shark, or a widebutton shark (lat. Carcharhinus Falciformis) type of cartilage fish of the family of gray sharks.

This is a predator that belongs to the family of pilot sharks, the genus Carcharhinus. The number of species today causes concerns among the UN and other organizations to protect nature due to poachers cutting the fins of sharks.

Appearance

The length of the body of a sickle shark varies from 2, 5 to 3 m. A predator from 100 kg weighs, registered maximum 346 kg. Sexual dimorphism is expressed in size: male individuals a little smaller.

The silk shark has a streamlined body, which protects a very thin plateau scales. The color of the body of the shark is gray-blue, brownish with a bronze tint. The belly of the predator is white. As the shark is aged, the color fades noticeably.

The eyes of the silk shark are round, individuals have the third eyelid a migating membrane. These predators have a pretty good hearing, they are able to capture all the noises that future victims produce. Silk sharks are also excellent, individuals can smell the smell of production for 200-300 meters.

These predators have jagged teeth, they are bent back. This is necessary in order to hold the slippery victim and quickly cut it. On the upper jaw are triangular teeth with mini-saws. The lower murders of the murders are smaller and already, have a scarf shape.

The silk shark is easy to recognize by small processes on the spinal and anal fin. The first fin on the back is small, rounded. The tail fin is much larger, its upper part is elongated. There is a ledge at the end of the fin. The breast fins have a sickle shape, their ends are painted in black.

This shark can be distinguished by a fold between the back fins and the small front fin, whose upper edge is strongly bent and moved back. Another feature of the species is the fact that the first thoracic fin is located very close to the last zarre.

Where it lives

Silk shark prefers warm or “moderate” water, it cannot be found in seas with a temperature below +22 ° C. A large number of sharks are found in the north-west of the Atlantic and in the eastern waters of the Pacific Ocean. Silk sharks can be found in the Indian Ocean. There are several populations in the Red Sea. Predators often migrate due to seasonal temperature fluctuations.

It happens that sharks are found off the coast. These sharks are dangerous for humans because they are quite aggressive. If the shark took the position of threat, that is, raised her head and arched back, you need to urgently float out of the possessions of the individual.

What eats

Silk shark eats reef and tributary fish, representatives of crustaceans and mollusks. Shark is also included in the diet of a mackerel kefal, acne with anchovies. This predator prefers Sardina and mackerel, but Tuna is a favorite dish of sharks. In the absence of food, a silk shark can feed on whale carcasses and dolphins.

Hunting

Silk sharks almost never form flocks during hunting. Typically, these predators are chasing prey at a depth of 50 to 500 m. Sometimes sharks join the flocks of tunnits or fish-young people. This is done in order to make a choice of production easier.

Several sharks can hunt in one site, but they never attack the same victim. Therefore, conflicts between sharks do not arise.

Reproduction

This representative of the pilot sharks propagates vibrant. Before birth, the mother goes to reef territories, where there are not many predators. The body of the cub at birth is formed, the length of its body ranges from 60 to 80 cm. There are 2-14 cubs in one litter. The first few months of life, the kids are in shallow water, where they were born, the mother does not follow the sharks, and they themselves provide themselves with food. In the first year, cubs grow only 30 cm.

Females are capable of producing offspring every year, despite the cubs, you need exactly a year. Females who are ready to reproduce have one ovary and two uterus. The uterus is divided into several compartments, each of which is specially prepared for one embryo.

The life cycles of these pilot sharks depend on the waters in which they live. Those who prefer warm waters grow faster, respectively, puberty occurs faster. On average, silk sharks live 22, 5 years.
