Hounds and related breeds
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, hunting with a gun was banned in almost all of Switzerland. The only exceptions were some cantons. However, the territories were small, and the hounds that existed at that time were not suitable for hunting they turned out to be too fast. So it was decided to breed a new breed of small size.
The result of the work of breeders was undersized dogs with a pleasant voice and a wonderful scent. The breed was named “Small Swiss Hound”. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was recognized by the Swiss Kennel Club, and by the FCI in the 1950s.
The small Swiss hound is a worthy representative of hunting dogs. Calm, balanced (and at home they can even be called phlegmatic), they will be happy to lie at the feet of the owner in the evenings and slowly walk with him in the mornings.
However, they cannot be considered lazy: like all hunting dogs, they love physical activity. And in the work, small Swiss hounds show themselves as purposeful and energetic animals. Excellent flair is their main hunting advantage.
According to the standard, the vice of the breed is aggression towards relatives and cowardice. For a dog to be sociable and friendly, it needs socialization.
Carried out at an early age. Starting from two months, the puppy is introduced to the outside world, people and animals.
As for training, a lot depends on the owner. If he found an approach to the pet, there will be no problems. The best motivation for a small Swiss hound is a treat and praise from the owner.
Dogs of this breed usually quickly find a common language with relatives. They hunt in a pack, so there should be no problems with other animals. Of course, if they are not aggressive.
With children, the small Swiss hound loves to spend time, although, of course, a lot depends on her upbringing. When a baby appears in the house, it is important to show the pet that the baby is a new member of the family, and the dog will continue to receive attention.
The short coat of the Small Swiss Hound is fairly easy to care for. Shedding occurs in spring and autumn, at this time the dogs must be combed out with a furminator, this allows you to remove the fallen hairs. The rest of the time it is enough to wipe the dog with a damp hand or a towel.
Every week you need to examine the teeth, ears and eyes of the dog, clean them in time.
Conditions of detention
The Small Swiss Hound will make a great companion for a family that lives in the city. But there is one condition: she needs loads, including running and various games. It is advisable to periodically take the pet out into nature so that the dog can walk in the fresh air to its fullest.
