Herding and cattle dogs other than Swiss cattle dogs
The South Russian Shepherd Dog is a serious breed that requires attention, upbringing and careful training. For the first time, representatives of this breed were discovered about three centuries ago on the border of Ukraine and Russia. However, the breed received its name only in 1928, and its first standard was adopted a few years later in 1932. During the war, the number of these dogs was greatly reduced, but later Soviet cynologists managed to restore it.
White and fluffy “sheep” South Russian Shepherd Dogs at first glance seem harmless. However, this impression is deceptive, the breed is quite serious and will suit disciplined people who are ready for thorough pet training. It is better to start a dog of this breed when there is a successful experience in raising other dogs.
What are the advantages of such a formidable animal? These dogs have a strong character and courage. The well-being and safety of the owner is always in the first place for them. If the leader of the pack, which they consider one of the family members, is in danger, the South Russian Shepherd will immediately rush to the defense, while she may even sacrifice her life.
Remember that the South Russian Shepherd Dog always chooses its owner for itself, and this greatly affects its training. The dog will respect the rest of the family, but only the owner will obey unquestioningly.
In addition, guests who come to the house must make sure that the dog is accustomed to them and trusts them, only then you can communicate with her, stroke her and hug her. You will have to worry about the safety of other animals if they appear in the house.
Initially, the South Russian Shepherd Dog was used to guard sheep flocks, and today it is still an excellent watchman who can be safely entrusted with the protection of a house or warehouse.
The South Russian Shepherd Dog requires careful daily combing, otherwise its long, thick coat can fall into tangles. To do this, you need a slicker with long metal teeth. You also need to regularly trim the bangs so that the pet can have a good view. It is necessary to accustom a dog to combing from a very early age.
One of the advantages of the South Russian Shepherd Dogs is their good health. The only special recommendation that distinguishes the care of these dogs is a careful look at the portion size. It may seem to the owners that a large animal needs to be fed satisfyingly. However, South Russian Shepherd Dogs have a rather modest appetite.
