Steppe fox Corsac from the Red Book Description and photo

Steppe fox or Corsac belongs to the family. At the moment, due to the low number, or rather, it is said to reduce it due to the negative influence of a person, the breed is listed in the Red Book. Mass shooting of the animal occurs due to a beautiful fur coat of the fox.

Description of the breed

In size, and weight, the steppe fox is a small animal. Length on average 45-65 cm, height in the withers no more than 30 centimeters. But as for the mass, here the mark rarely exceeds 5 kilograms. Although, there are cases when the fox weighed up to 8 kg. However, recently such individuals are extremely rare, due to adverse conditions for living.

There are a couple of cardinal differences from other types of foxes they have pointed ears, a short muzzle and 48 small, but very sharp teeth. The tail of the steppe fox is quite long up to 25 centimeters. The color of the wool differs-in this case, it is dull gray and not in vain. It is this color that allows the fox to survive in the steppe and effectively hunt in dry grass the beast simply becomes inconspicuous.

The steppe fox is distinguished by especially sharp hearing and vision. Moreover they can calmly climb trees, and they can run at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, which allows them to get food relatively simply.

By nature, they are not aggressive in relation to relatives, but if a conflict of interest arises, then the fox can make barking like a dog, and even growl.

The area of residence of the steppe fox is quite extensive. They can be found in Iran, in Central Asia and even Kazakhstan. Due to the fact that the number of this subspecies is extremely small, the territory where they live are protected especially carefully.

The fox of this species tries to choose a terrain of a relief type, with a hilly surface, but a minimum amount of vegetation. This is due to the fact that in the winter season there will be more snow, which means hiding is much easier.

It is noteworthy that each animal of this species chooses a small territory about 30 square kilometers. On this square, the fox equips itself a few nu, but it itself digs them very rarely. The fox is still a cunning animal, and therefore simply occupies the dwellings of badgers, marmots and gophers both in size and by the type of structure, they are optimally suitable for her.

Still, the steppe fox, although small, but the predator. Catches a steppe resident of small animals hares, marmots, tushkiks. In the hungry time, the fox will not refuse the field mice, insects. In addition, Corsac can catch even birds, as it has the possibility of quick movement and climbing trees. In exceptional cases, the steppe fox can eat even carrion.

It should be noted that a corsak can live without food for a long time, and they do not need water at all. In search of prey, Corsac can pass several kilometers, but with a large amount of snow, this is much more difficult to do. Therefore, with harsh winters, the number of the steppe fox is reduced.

Search for production occur at night and only one by one. Joint hunting is extremely rare. Before fishing, the fox sticks out the face from the hole in order to sniff air. Only after the animal is convinced of his own safety, goes in search of prey.

In the spring of the year, the wedding period begins. After the female gives offspring, a “family” flock is formed a female, a male and their offspring. The life expectancy of an animal in the wild is relatively small only six years. But as for the content in captivity, subject to proper care, Corsac can live up to 12 years.
