Wippet is a small breed of dogs from England, its name comes from the English Whippet, which literally means “hound”. Scientists still cannot establish its exact origin. Most likely, Roman legionnaires brought to the British Islands of the ancestors of this breed many centuries ago. However, Wippet acquired his modern appearance in England.
The dog was used not only for hunting for hares and small game, but also for various game competitions. For the first time, Wippet’s standard was adopted at the beginning of the 20th century and has not changed much until now.
Wippet is a very attentive, obedient and sensitive dog. In this, he is similar to the leftist, the smallest representative of the greyhounds. In the upbringing of Whippet, it is necessary to be extremely tactful and neat: rudeness and increased tone are unacceptable, they can cause serious harm to the psyche of the pet.
An intelligent and wellmannered Wippet will never impose his society to the owner. At the same time, these dogs need constant communication and affection, they feel emotional mood in the family.
Wippet is trained, but training should not be tedious. This dog is obeyed by the owner, but because of an independent nature, waywards may show. The owner who wants to teach Wippet several tricks should be extremely patient.
Representatives of this English breed are ideal for the role of a pet. Active and goodnatured, they will be happy to play and mess with children. By the way, these dogs have well developed security qualities, since they are used to trusting only their family members. Whippets easily get along with other animals in the house, including dogs and cats.
Care
Small English greyhound is not demanding in care. During molting, the dog should be combed with a massage brush. You must also forget about the regular examination and brushing of the pet tooth.
They bathe the stupids, as a rule, no more than once a month: they differ in cleanliness and almost do not smell.
Conditions of detention
Thanks to compact dimensions, Whippet is ideal for the role of a city dog. However, the owners should carefully treat the first walks with the pet: it is important to accustom him to the city noise so that the animal does not feel stress.
The small English greyhound refers to hunting breeds, which means that she needs active long walks. It is advisable to exhaust the dog with physical exercises, running and games in the fresh air. In winter, it is better to reduce the time of walking: Whippets cannot be in the cold for a long time, while they need warm clothes. In addition, you need to carefully ensure that the pet does not fall into drafts, otherwise he can get sick.
