Due to the consumption of oxygen by all organisms, the amount of such a gas is constantly decreasing, therefore oxygen reserves must be constantly replenished. This is the purpose of the oxygen cycle. This is the most complex biochemical process during which the atmosphere and the earth’s surface exchange ozone. How such a cycle goes, we propose to find out in this article.
The concept of circulation
Among the atmosphere, lithosphere, terrestrial organic matter and hydrosphere, there is an interchange of all kinds of chemicals. Interchange occurs incessantly, flowing from stage to stage. Throughout the history of the existence of our planet, such interaction has been going on non-stop and has been going on for 4.5 billion years.
The concept of circulation can best be understood by referring to such a science as geochemistry. This science explains such interaction with four most important rules that have been tested and confirmed by experiments more than once:
Such cycles are closely related to nature and human activities. Organic elements interact with inorganic and form a continuous biochemical cycle called the cycle.
Scheme of the oxygen cycle in nature
The history of the discovery of ozone
Until August 1, 1774, mankind did not suspect the existence of oxygen. We owe its discovery to the scientist Joseph Priestley, who discovered it by decomposing mercury oxide in a hermetically sealed vessel, simply by concentrating the sun’s rays through a huge lens on mercury.
This scientist did not realize his investment in world science and believed that he had discovered not a new simple substance, but just a component of air, which he proudly called it defogisted air.
The outstanding French scientist Karl Lavoisier, set the point in the opening of the oxygen, taking the conclusions of Pristley as the basis: he conducted a number of experiments and proved that oxygen is a separate substance. Thus, the opening of this gas belongs, immediately by two scientists Pristley and Lavoisier.
Oxygen as an element
Oxygen (oxygenium) translated from Greek means “giving birth to acid”. In the days of ancient Greece, all oxides called acid. This unique gas is the most popular in nature and is 47% of the total mass of the land of the Earth, it is stored both in the earth’s bowels and in the balls of the atmosphere, seas, oceans, and is included as the component of more than one and a half thousand compounds of the earth’s bowels.
Oxygen interchange
The ozone cycle is a dynamic chemical interaction of elements of nature, living organics, and their determining role in this action. The biochemical cycle is the process of planetary scale, it connects atmospheric elements with the surface of the Earth and is realized as follows:
In addition to the cycle that occurs due to photosynthesis, ozone is also released from water: from the surface of water masses, seas, rivers and oceans, rains and other precipitation. Oxygen in water evaporates, condenses and is released. Oxygen is also obtained from the weathering of rocks such as limestone.
Photosynthesis as a concept
Photosynthesis is generally called the release of ozone in the process of releasing organic compounds from water and carbon dioxide. In order for the process of photosynthesis to take place, the following components are required: water, light, heat, carbon dioxide and chloroplasts plant plastids that contain chlorophyll.
Through photosynthesis, the oxygen produced rises into the atmosphere and forms the ozone layer. Thanks to the ozone ball, which protects the surface of the planet from ultraviolet radiation, life on land was born: marine inhabitants were able to go to land and settle on the surface of the earth. Without oxygen, life on our planet would cease.
