Use of the bowels of the Earth | Control over the rational use of subsoil

The earth’s interior is the part of the earth’s crust that is below the soil layer of the earth. If it is removed, the subsoil will be located below the bottom of rivers and reservoirs and located deep below them. Often only minerals are referred to this term, but they are only part of the subsoil. For human life, they play an important role, as they can improve the quality of life. Subsoil is used in various industries and is necessary for the development of the economies of countries.

The concepts of the interior of the Earth and their distribution

Most often, people use the earth’s interior in the form of minerals. Mineral production has quadrupled over the past 50 years and continues to grow steadily. According to consumption statistics:

  • coal increased by 2 times;
  • iron ore by 2.5-3 times;
  • gas and oil 5 times.
  • Minerals are involved in the sphere of industrial production, which is why they are so valued by people. They can be divided into two groups:

  • common fossils (sand, pebbles, clay, chalk, etc.).d.);
  • non-common minerals (gold, platinum, oil, etc.).d.).
  • Large reserves of major minerals are located in:

  • Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (oil);
  • Eurasia (natural gas, coal, iron ore, oil);
  • USA (hard coal, copper ores);
  • China (iron ore, coal);
  • Africa (irons, phosphorites, aluminum).
  • The mineral resource base is used in the fuel, energy, chemical and construction sectors. In addition, the subsoil becomes a temporary human habitat (mines, metro, bomb shelters).

    Spheres of subsoil use

    Man has adapted to change the sources of energy, as they can be influenced by the number of fossils, scientific and technological progress of the state and economic costs. Subsoil has a wide range of applications in various fields:

    1. Construction of buildings and complexes. The use of fossils in construction has increased significantly over the past 20 years. In big cities and not only they are building subways, installing underground parking lots, supermarkets and shopping centers.
    2. Production of building materials. Fossils are applied to civil, industrial and road construction. Minerals are used to make reinforced concrete, bricks, mortars and synthetic materials. Can also be used in its natural form on construction sites.
    3. metallurgy. Processing of mineral fuels forms the basis for large-scale industrial complexes. This allows the development of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.
    4. Chemical industry. This area effectively uses apatites and phosphorites, sulfur and salt. Some minerals from chemical processing are used for medical purposes in the form of medicines.
    5. medicine. Spent underground rock salt deposits are often used to treat asthma and allergies.

    Ways of rational use

    The rationalization of the use of mineral resources contributes to:

  • prevention of subsoil pollution during use;
  • reduction of losses during the transportation of raw materials using gas and pipelines;
  • use of associated energy resources;
  • additional use of alternative energy sources;
  • recycling of products of processing of mineral raw materials;
  • development of other additional types of subsoil resources (deep heat of the earth, groundwater);
  • saving resources.
  • Rational use of subsoil will allow to preserve mineral reserves, which are so necessary for mankind for its life activity.
