Valerian medicinal properties, application, composition and photo

Among the large number of healing plants Valerian, medicinal is a leading position. The people also call it cat root, maun-grass or a millennium pink. Perennial plant belongs to the Valerian family. Flowering occurs already in the second year of valerian’s life and begins in the month of June. The most healing are the roots of plants that are widely used in the field of medicine.

Thanks to the unique chemical composition of Valerian, the human body magically affects. The plant consists of the following components:

  • Alkaloids Khatinin, Actinidine, Valerin, etc.;
  • essential oil;
  • valerian and outflowing acid;
  • tannins;
  • organic acids;
  • Enzymes and saponins.
  • In addition, the plant contains pinen, camphen, sugar, valepotriats, macro- and trace elements.

    Therapeutic properties of the plant

    Valerianbased preparations have various useful properties and are prescribed even to young children. Medicines from the plant put in order the cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal tract, reduce the excitability of the central nervous system and relax the spasms of the smooth muscles. A representative of the Valerian family is accepted as a sedative, antiinflammatory and sleeping pills. Preparations made of herbal plant have the following effect:

  • reduce pressure;
  • expand blood vessels;
  • relieve cramps of venous vessels;
  • normalize the thyroid gland.
  • Valerian medicinal is prescribed for pneumonia, convulsions, pain in the heart, asthma, hysteria, strong heartbeat, migraines, mental disorders, attacks of epilepsy, fright, as well as insomnia and violations during menopause.

    Tinctures based on plants are prescribed for children with nervous disorder and fright (dosage is set depending on age). Also, funds from valerian are perfectly treated with digestive system diseases, improve appetite and are used for diseases of the bile ducts, liver and gall bladder.

    From Valerian medicinal, enemas are made to help to cure dysentery and get rid of worms. The plant is also taken for preventive purposes.

    Contraindications for use
