Why leaf fall occurs in the fall

In our area, many trees drop foliage, and this is a common process that occurs in the fall before the onset of winter colds and frosts. Leaf fall occurs not only in conditions of temperate latitudes, but also in tropical. There, the fall of the leaves is not so noticeable, since all types of trees drop them in various periods of time, and peace lasts only a few days. The process of leaf fall itself depends not only on external, but also on internal factors.

Features of leaf fall

Listopad is a phenomenon when the leaves are separated from the branches of shrubs and trees, and it occurs once a year. In fact, falling leaves is characteristic of all types of trees, even those that are considered evergreen. The fact is that this process takes place gradually, takes a long time, so it is practically not noticeable for people.

The main causes of leaf fall:

  • preparation of plants for a dry or cold season;
  • climatic and seasonal changes;
  • Plant disease;
  • lesion of the tree with insects;
  • the effect of chemicals;
  • environmental pollution.
  • When the cold season is approaching in some parts of the planet, and in others dry, then in the ground the amount of water becomes insufficient, so the leaves fall so as not to dry out. The minimum of moisture that remains in the soil is used to power the root, barrel and other organs of the plant.

    The trees, having dropped the foliage, get rid of harmful substances that have accumulated in the leaf plate. In addition, the plants of moderate latitudes drop the leaves precisely in the fall, preparing for the rest period, because otherwise the snow would have accumulated on the leaves, and under the weight of precipitation the trees would bend to the ground, and some of them would have died.

    Fallen leaves

    First, the leaves on the trees change the color. It is in the fall that we observe the entire palette of leaves: from yellow and crimson to dark brown shades. This happens because the process of receiving useful substances in the leaves slows down, and then completely stops. Fallen foliage contains carbohydrates that are produced when the sheet is absorbed by CO2, nitrogen and some minerals. Their excess can harm the plant, therefore, when the leaves fall, harmful substances do not enter the body of the tree.

    I assure experts that the fallen leaves are forbidden to burn, since during this process a number of substances polluting the air enter the atmosphere:

  • sulfuric anhydride;
  • carbon monoxide;
  • nitrogen;
  • hydrocarbon;
  • soot.
  • All this pollutes the environment. The very meaning of leaf fall for ecology plays a large role. Fallen leaves are rich organic fertilizer, saturate the soil with useful substances. Also, deciduous cover protects the soil from low temperatures, and for some animals and insects, leaves are a rich source of power, so fallen leaves are an integral part of any ecosystem.
