Yellow-brown oily (Suillus variegatus) is an edible mushroom that belongs to the Masleung family. Other names are a yellow-brown moss, motley butter.
Mature representatives of the species diameter of the hat is from 5 to 10 cm. Young specimens have a spherical hat, its edges are bent inside. Over time, this part of the mushroom is straightened. The hat is usually light brown, but can be painted in orange, yellow. It is usually covered with scales.
Himenofor or sporiferous layer consists of small tubes, it grows to the leg. It has brown color. In many mushrooms, the skin can be easily separated from the hat, but the yellow-brown oil is an exception. In inclement weather, this sporebearing layer becomes adhesive.
In mature specimens, the leg has the shape of a cylinder, in young mushrooms it is a pinshaped. The thickness of this part is about 3 3, 5 cm. The leg has brown or yellow color. On this part of the mushroom there is no “skirt”. The pulp of the legs is hard. Usually painted in white. On the cut always becomes dark blue. The pulp smells of needles.
Brown spore powder, but often casts olive. Ellipsoid disputes, their length varies from 8 to 11 μm. Usually they are painted in light yellow.
Where it grows
The yellow-brown oil is formed by mycorrhise with pine trees, so it can always be found in mixed forests of Eurasia. This mushroom grows both in the central part of the country and in Siberia, in the Caucasus. Oil loves sandy soils and peat bogs. It often grows in groups.
The mushroom grows in July, the fruits gather from August to October.
Maslens in history
The genus to which the mushroom belongs was opened by Pierre Antonio Mikeli. Mycologist described a genus called “Nova Plantarum”. This happened in 1729. The classification of the family was created by another scientist Rolf Zinger.
The yellow-brown oil does not have toxic doubles, but it looks a little like the bile mushroom with color and “stockiness”. However, the sporiferous layer of the dangerous brother is white and on the cut may become pink or not change color.
The yellow-brown oil is like a goat mushroom outwardly. But the latter has large sizes, and its hat is much lighter. Another difference is that the pulp of a goat on the cut turns red.
This mushroom can be confused with pepper oil. But the double is bright yellow. This mushroom is inedible due to its acute pulp.
Yellow-brown oil is often confused with cedar oilcock. You can distinguish a double on a sticky hat and leg, which is covered with growths warts with white color. In addition, the pulp of the false mushroom does not blue.
Kedrov oil oily
The representative of the Masleung family is also similar to the Mookhovik red, fissured. But you can recognize the yellow-brown oil so that it grows only under pine trees, and mosses can be found in any corner of the forest. Mohoviks have a Himenofor much lighter than the outer side of the hat, the sporiferous layer of these mushrooms is more porous.
Dried oils are used as a seasoning for soup. These mushrooms can be fried, moreover, it is not necessary to boil them in advance. Many extinguish oils with cabbage so the taste of the mushroom is better opened. This mushroom is also pickled, but it is not worth laying copies in the jar too tightly, otherwise they will stick together.
